Looking Forward to 2015
Well that is it! The club’s 2014 activities are over and it is time to look forward to 2015.
2014 was another successful year for the club and our end of year functions were very well attended.
Christmas Concert
The Christmas Concert was well received by a capacity crowd. New songs, hilarious skits, wonderful performances and some great cameo roles made for a memorable show. Afterwards Duncan and his team plied everyone with cups of tea and coffee as they enjoyed their snack - the ensuing lucky door prize draw ensured that the afternoon finished off on a high note.
Christmas Lunch
The final lunch of the year was attended by nearly 90 members. Dapto Leagues Club did us proud, the meal was excellent.
Surprise Presentation
Squeezed in between the meal and the raffle draw was a presentation. For once our President was lost for words when he was called up to be presented with his Branch Life Membership by our Vice President. Brian has been president of our club for five years and very much deserved this award.
Following this presentation Edna and Ann got stuck into the raffle with their usual enthusiasm, two tables were over flowing with wonderful prizes donated by members. In fact there were more prizes than attendees so some lucky members went away with two gifts. What a great effort by everyone.
Next Meeting
The first meeting of the club in 2015 is:
Thursday, 15th January 2015
We look forward to seeing you all then. Annual membership fees are due at that meeting, it is still only $12 for the year.
In accordance with members’ suggestion we will be recording the next of kin details in our membership file. All that is recorded is a phone number of a relative who you would like to be contacted in the event of an emergency. This is purely optional so is entirely up to you whether you choose to take advantage of this. If you would like such a phone number recorded (land line or mobile) please write it clearly somewhere on your membership envelope.
Please make our hardworking treasurer’s job a little easier in January by enclosing the exact money for your membership subscription. Thank you.
Once again: To all our members…
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
All the best for 2015.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
Last Meeting of 2014
A reminder that the last meeting of 2014 is on the 4th December at 10.30am (but don’t forget to come early for a cuppa and a chat).
To celebrate Christmas the fortnightly member’s raffle has been raised to three prizes of $50 each yet the price remains at three tickets for a mere $1. You have to be in it to win it but the chance of you winning is infinitely higher than your chance of winning Lotto. Have a go, you never know your luck.
Christmas Concert
Time, once again, for the annual Christmas Concert. It’s in Heininger Hall at 1.30pm right behind the Ribbonwood Centre on the Princes Highway. As usual there is a jolly good time on offer followed by a snack with tea and coffee as well as a monster raffle. Get there a little bit early for a good seat.
The Advertiser ran a small piece about the concert in this week’s edition of the paper.
Dapto Seniors thanks the Advertiser for their on-going support.
The Next Meeting
Finally…
See you all then.

Snowy Mountains Holiday 2014
On the 26th October eighteen club members set off on their annual spring holiday, this time to Cooma in the Snowy Mountains. What a fantastic adventure it was for everybody that took part. We stayed at the High Country Motel which had wonderful views over Cooma.
The highlight of the trip was on the Thursday when we drove down to Eden to go whale watching and were fortunate enough to see several humpback whales as they made their way down the coast to the Antarctic. Our first sighting was a female with her calf, later we came across two more pods of males and females.
The motel food was excellent with more than enough for everyone; a buffet breakfast, hot drinks, and snack for lunch then a three course meal in the evening - at our last dinner we had a special meal of Rainbow Trout.
As well as whale watching the trip included visits to Yarrangobilly Caves, Brown Mountain, Cooma Monaro Heritage Railway, Snowy Hydro Centre, Cooma Gaol, Thredbo Village, Lake Jindabyne and much more. We even saw snow! It was great.

As you can see the new computer dwarf's the original NEC computers supplied several years ago but none the less they still provide a lot of good information and have been recently updated with a lot more software.

What's the Buzz?
Theatre News
A good number of members attended the preview performance of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Roo Theatre in Shellharbour. Everybody enjoyed themselves despite the somewhat damp weather.
Our theatre visit organiser has distributed the club's tickets to the Premier's Seniors Week Concert on 19th March but she is also taking names of members who wish to go to Strictly Ballroom - The Musical (August)and the new performance of Wicked (probably November).
One of the advantages of being a member of this club is the availability of discounted theatre tickets due to group bookings. Ask Jackie at the next meeting about future shows.
BYO Picnic
Russell has organised another BYO picnic for the 6th March at Cordeaux Dam. If it is anything like the last one we had at Fitzroy Falls it will be a great day out. Bring your own food and drink, there are plenty of shelters, seats, electric BBQs and hot water available at the dam recreation facilities.
For those who have put their name down for a lift to the event remember to meet at the hall at 9.30am. Don't miss out.
Annual Picnic
Maureen has organised the club's annual picnic for 3rd April at the usual venue next to the Australian Motorlife Museum in Integral Energy Park a short distance along Darkes Road from the Kanahooka/Princes Highway roundabout. Tickets for this event will be on sale at the next meeting,it's still only $10 for a smashing meal, fun and games. Those who attended last year will remember what a great success it was. don't forget to bring your own cutlery, cup and a plate.
Kiama Walk
The walking group will have its first walk of the year in Kiama on Friday 21st March which co-incidentally is during Seniors' Week. Catch the 10.22am Kiama train at Dapto Station where Jim will be upstairs in the second carriage. Members can bring their own lunch or buy something on the walk. Should be an interesting day out.
Card Players Wanted
If you like playing cards then why not join our happy band of card players each Wednesday in the Laurel Room at the Ribbonwood Centre starting at 9.30am. Bring a packed lunch; tea and coffee is available. This is a very social group and new members are always welcome - why not try it out?
Fathers' Day Lunch
The Father's Day Lunch originally planned for 4th September has been put back a fortnight to the 18th September due to a clash of dates with another local society.
It is not a big problem for us but just remember to change the date listed on your membership card.
Our first lunch this year will be in May - keep an eye out for an announcement of when tickets go on sale.
